AQUACULTURE CLUB VISIT TO I-AQUAS

 

PORT DICKSON: The Aquaculture Club under the auspices of Department of Aquaculture, University Putra Malaysia (UPM) has organized a 'Study Visit to I-AQUAS’ on March 1, 2020. The program involves 30 students comprising the Bachelor of Science Aquaculture program’s first and second year student. The visit was led by Club Advisor Associate Professor Dr Murni Marlina Abdul Karim.

The main purpose of the program is to provide students with exposure to I-AQUAS operations, and to expand their knowledge in aquaculture. In addition, students can also enhance their experience and improve their skills by doing practical work at I-AQUAS.

The program went well with the assistance of Mr. Ahmad Anuar bin Zainal, Mr. Jeeva Prakash Tanasygaran and Mr. Mohamad Affendi Abdul Wahid as the I-AQUAS staff whose responsible in bringing students to the Hatcheri area and providing in-depth description of I-AQUAS. Among the highlights of the I-AQUAS are seaweed projects such as Caulerpa lentillifera, crab breeding, large-scale microalgae cultivation and projects undertaken by Master students. For practical activities, students are given the task of cleaning hatcheries, moving fish and putting crabs in the pond.

At the end of the program, the aquaculture club advisor presented a gift to Mr Anuar as a token of appreciation while closing the I-AQUAS visit program. Hopefully, this academic visit will serve as a platform for developing Aquaculture Club students as well-versed students in aquaculture.
