Aquaculture Biotechnology (AquaLab)

The field of Aquaculture Biotechnology is one of the important components in the aquaculture industry. This field is related to the application of techniques and latest biotechnological  tools to increase the production of aquatic animals and plants. Biotechnology provides tools for the development of sustainable aquaculture, fisheries as well as the food industry. Increase demand for seafood and declining natural resources have encouraged scientists to  search for effective biotechnological tools for improvement of  aquaculture production

Aquaculture Biotechnology focuses on research in utilization of technology towards improvement of aquatic plant and animal management. Emphasis will be given to the development of protocols, processes and techniques, as well as new biotechnological-based products using aquaculture resources. Modern biotechnologies have contributed significantly and successfully tackled important challenges in aquaculture development. Modern biotechnology should serve as a supplement and not as a substitute for conventional technology in solving problems, and their applications should be based on needs rather than technology. Through the usage of modern biotechnology, there is a high potential to increase  yields of aquatic species to fulfil demand as well as to increase  aquaculture activity. Modification of techniques in biotechnology also has high potential to increase and improve quality and quantity of cultured fish.
