In ‘Geochemometric approach to groundwater quality and health risk assessment of heavy metals of Yankari Game Reserve and its environs, Northeast Nigeria’, a research team noted that the earth’s destructive and constructive processes may bring contaminants from geogenic sources and release potentially toxic elements into solution via erosion. Heavy metals can be released into the water in substantial quantities through automobile emissions, improper waste management, fossil fuel combustion, agrochemical application, industrial effluents and irrigation from various activities such as mining, metal processing, and agriculture. Water samples collected from boreholes were pumped away severally of about 10–15 min to discard the stagnant water that might have stayed for some time in the reservoir. Anthropogenic activities may have a significant effect on the distribution of heavy metals in environments. The need for monitoring with time; otherwise, if unchecked, may accumulate in the body and cause various organs impairments. Concentrations of forty-one water samples from twenty natural springs, fifteen boreholes, five hand-dug wells, and a stream were detected. Nine heavy metals were analysed with Flame Atomic Absorption Spectrometry.
