Fisherman's Base, Port Dickson: Blue Swimmer Crablet Release Program in conjunction with the Telok Kemang, Port Dickson’s Fishermen Community Meeting is a community program organized by the Negeri Sembilan Fisheries Department in collaboration with the International Institute of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (I-AQUAS) UPM, Port Dickson. The program was held on March 13, 2020, at 3.00pm at the Fisherman's Base, Batu 7, Telok Kemang, Port Dickson. The Blue Swimmer crab seeding program for this public release has been running for almost a year with the grant funded by the Department of Fisheries Malaysia.
One of the main objectives of the program was the release of Blue Swimmer crablet (Portunus pelagicus) to rejuvenate the natural stock of crab population in the coastal waters of Port Dickson. It is hoped that this crablet release program will be fruitful in terms of increasing catch of Blue Swimmer crab by the fishermen at Telok Kemang in the future. A total of 35,000 crablets produced at the I-AQUAS hatchery were released during the program. At the same time, this Department of Fisheries Malaysia's program is also seeking feedback on the determination of the proposed fishing spot for 2020. The program was attended by 20 people from the staff of both government agencies and the involved local fishing community. Hopefully this kind of activity can have a positive impact to the fishermen.
