Institut Antarabangsa Akuakultur dan Sains Akuakultur (I-AQUAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Senckenberg, Muzium frankfurt and Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) has organized a conference "Future of Biodiversity Collection in Malaysia 2023, held at the Jurutera Radin Umar Auditorium, Engineering Faculty UPM, Serdang, Selangor.
Malaysia as part of the Sundaland Biodiversity Hotspot, is one of the Conference of Parties (COP) countries which has signed the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in 1992, committed to the conservation, sustainable use and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of biodiversity. However, thirty years after the Convention was agreed upon, species loss was still occurring faster that it had been due to poor implementation and accelerated by climate change impacts.
This event Future of Biodiversity Collections in Malaysia is a great platform for scientists, policy makers, collectors, researchers, and all biodiversity/taxonomy enthusiasts to share and to form a strong network working towards a better future for the Malaysian biodiversity research.
