SERDANG, 15 October 2025 — The International Institute of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (I-AQUAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), participated as an official exhibitor at the UPM Postgraduate Open Day 2025, organized by the School of Graduate Studies (SPS). The programme was held at the Grand Hall, Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Cultural and Arts Centre (PKKSSAS), UPM Serdang Campus, serving as a key platform to introduce postgraduate programmes, laboratory facilities, and research opportunities to new students and prospective postgraduate candidates from both local and international communities.

The event saw active participation from 23 Responsibility Centres (PTJ), including faculties, schools, and research institutes. I-AQUAS was represented by Dr Izwaharyanie Ibrahim and Ms Nurashimah Senin, who provided explanations on various aspects of the institute’s research, including the latest innovation projects and aquaculture studies in Port Dickson. The I-AQUAS booth received an encouraging response from over 600 visitors, including PhD, Master of Science, and Master by Coursework (MSKK) candidates.

The programme commenced with participant registration and a welcoming address by SPS Dean, Prof. Dr Zalilah Mohd Shariff. Throughout the day, visitors had the opportunity to attend postgraduate briefings, obtain information on financial assistance and scholarships, and participate in interactive activities such as Kahoot! quizzes and lucky draws. I-AQUAS representatives provided in-depth briefings on the structure of research programmes, supervision opportunities, research grants, and community capacity development through high-value aquaculture projects.

I-AQUAS’ participation aimed to attract prospective postgraduate students to the fields of aquaculture, aquatic sciences, and water resource management, while also raising awareness of the institute’s role in sustainable research development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 14: Life Below Water). The programme also opened up new collaboration opportunities with students and young researchers, further enhancing I-AQUAS’ visibility as a centre of excellence for postgraduate research and training in aquatic and environmental sustainability.
