PORT DICKSON, 24 December 2024 - The International Institute of Aquaculture and Aquatic Science (I-AQUAS), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) conducted an annual fire drill for the staff and students of the institute today.

The fire drill aims to test and improve the readiness, safety and health of the staff and students of the institute in facing fire emergencies, as well as to comply with the regulations and guidelines set by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM).

The fire drill was also attended by officers and members of JBPM from the Port Dickson Fire and Rescue Station. They provided assistance and advice to the staff and students of the institute in conducting the fire drill correctly and safely.

The fire drill started with the activation of the fire alarm system by the security officer of the institute, which caused the sound of bells throughout the institute building. The staff and students of the institute who were in the building immediately left the building in an orderly and calm manner through the nearest exit, and gathered at the designated assembly point.

The officers and members of JBPM then arrived at the location and conducted inspection and simulation of fire extinguishing at several parts of the institute building, including laboratories, offices and storerooms. They also gave briefings and demonstrations on how to use fire extinguishers, and emergency aid.

The fire drill was successfully carried out in less than 30 minutes, with no injuries or accidents occurring.

I-AQUAS also hoped that the fire drill would increase the awareness and responsibility of the staff and students of the institute towards the safety and health aspects at the workplace and learning environment.
