Aeromonas hydrophila is an important bacterial pathogen in freshwater aquaculture that can cause Motile Aeromonas Septicemia (MAS) and significant economic losses in fish farming. This study evaluated the pathogenic effects of A. hydrophila infection in juvenile red hybrid tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) by observing clinical symptoms and histopathological changes in major organs.

Infected fish exhibited several clinical signs, including abnormal swimming behavior, loss of balance, hemorrhagic eyes, and bilateral exophthalmia. Red-white lesions on the body surface and erosion of fins were also observed. Internal examination revealed enlargement of the spleen and kidney, while the liver appeared pale with petechial hemorrhages.

Histopathological analysis showed severe tissue damage in the liver, spleen, and kidney, including cellular degeneration, hemorrhage, and vacuole formation. The presence of hemosiderin pigments and melanomacrophage centres (MMC) indicated immune responses to bacterial infection. The findings confirm that A. hydrophila is a serious pathogen capable of causing systemic infection in tilapia.
