UPM's Centre for Industrial Relation and Network, CiRNeT UNIVERSITI PUTRA MALAYSIA and International Institute of Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences (I-AQUAS) are exploring potential collaboration with RHB Banking Group on sustainable development goals related to SDG 14 - Life Below Water.

As one of the leading research universities with a long focus on marine and aquatic research, Universiti Putra Malaysia has worked with numerous industries to promote conservation and income generation for local communities. This collaboration with RHB, headed by Roshan Jaffar, the Head of Strategic Planning, is aimed at exploring the potential of marine environments, marine animals, socio-economy, and impact for sustainability.

One of the key challenges in promoting marine conservation is to sell the right story so that people as a whole will appreciate the importance of the marine environment.

Another key issue is the impact of microplastics on marine ecosystems, and UPM can assist RHB as a partner in developing methods to reduce the effects of microplastics through sea grass, oyster, and crab cultivation.

We are excited about the potential of this collaboration and the positive impact it could have on promoting sustainable development goals related to life below water.
